Dear Community Partner/Stakeholder,
Recent tragedies in schools have demonstrated the importance of having a plan in place for how a school and community will respond in the event of an emergency. Having a clear plan in place that has been communicated to all relevant stakeholders cannot be overstated.
Education Law §2801-a and Commissioner’s Regulation §155.17 require that each public school and BOCES develop and annually update a confidential building-level Emergency Response Plan (ERP) that includes details about how school personnel and students would respond to different types of emergency situations that may occur in their school. In addition, each public school district, BOCES and charter school must also develop and annually update a district-wide school safety plan that provides critical information to parents, educators and the school community about the policies and procedures that are in place related to school safety.
By September 1st of each year, every school district, BOCES and charter school must develop/update and, after appropriate board review and a public comment period, adopt a comprehensive district-wide school safety plan. The Sisulu-Walker Charter School of Harlem’s Board of Trustees has reviewed the updated safety plan for the 2025-26 and we are entering into the public comment period. Please review the attached safety plan in its entirety. Submit comments to info@sisuluwalker.org by August 25, 2025.
Sincerely,
This plan outlines procedures for maintaining, restoring, and protecting essential information systems in the event of a disruption, emergency, or system failure.
This policy establishes guidelines for classifying, handling, storing, and protecting school data based on its level of sensitivity, confidentiality, and regulatory requirements.
This policy outlines the requirements and expectations for the use of personal devices on school networks and systems, including acceptable use, security responsibilities, data protection, and compliance with school technology standards.
While we navigate these uncharted waters together, please work with us as we strive to continue meeting our citizens’ educational needs during our closure in connection with this national emergency. Please click to read or on the corresponding link below to download remote plan:
