Thank you for your interest in attending Sisulu-Walker Charter School of Harlem. At Sisulu-Walker Charter School of Harlem, we welcome all applicants regardless of background, educational level, or life circumstances. Our guiding principles of honor, achievement and service, nurture intellectual, emotional, artistic and social development in Central Harlem students in Kindergarten through 5th Grade. Sisulu-Walker Charter School of Harlem’s application process is simple. Apply online using the New York City Common Online Charter School Application or download the application form below and complete it in full. Mail, email or feel free to pop-by and hand deliver the application to the contact information listed below. The application deadline for all applicants is Monday, April 2, 2018. Applications received after the deadline will be placed on the bottom of the wait list, after the lottery, in first come – first serve order.
The lottery is completely random with select preferences built in. We provide lottery preferences for siblings of current students and applicants in Community School District (CSD) 3. *To find your CSD visit NYC Department of Education School Search website.

What is the Lottery?
The SWCSH Lottery is an admissions process required by New York State law that is held when there are more student applications to a charter school than seats available. The lottery randomly selects from all applicants for admission. Students who are not selected in the lottery will be placed on a waiting list for spaces that may become available in the future.
Sisulu-Walker Charter School of Harlem’s Lottery for 2018-2019 will be held Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 6:00 PM. SWCSH gives preference to returning students, siblings of currently enrolled students and students who reside in local Community School District (CSD) 3. Siblings are defined as any two students who share a legal parent/guardian (legal documentation is required). Applicants do not have to be in attendance the day of the lottery in order to be accepted to our school, but ALL FAMILIES are WELCOMED to attend the live lottery at Sisulu-Walker Charter School of Harlem in Embassy Hall on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 6:00 PM.
After the Lottery
Within 5 school days of the conclusion of the lottery, families of students that were selected will be notified by email and or telephone. Families will have 10 days to accept or reject their child’s seat at Sisulu-Walker Charter School of Harlem. Families must formally accept their child’s seat by completing, signing and returning the letter of intent to attend. All letters of intent must be on file in the school office in order to protect your child’s seat.
Once you have formally accepted a seat at Sisulu-Walker Charter School of Harlem you have completed step one in the enrollment process. In order to secure your child's position in SWCSH’s Jamii (Jamii is Swahili for Community), you will need to complete an ENROLLMENT packet. The enrollment packet provides us with vital information about your child.
